Dr. Bemis has extensive experience providing psychotherapy to diverse populations in inpatient and outpatient settings. She worked in the public sector as a staff psychologist at the CA Department of State Hospitals-Metropolitan where she conducted psychological assessments and provided individual and group psychotherapies to adults requiring inpatient, long-term care due to severe mental illness. Further, she conducted competency evaluations for individuals governed under PC 1370 (Incompetent to Stand Trial) and led specialized treatment programs to help patients gain the necessary knowledge and skills to participate in court effectively.

Dr. Bemis also received intensive training in the rigorous APA-accredited postdoctoral fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where she oversaw the Adult Outpatient Psychiatry, CBT/DBT clinic. She served as the Assistant Clinical Director, supervised graduate trainees, and facilitated research dissemination projects for undergraduate students. Her clinical training includes implementing evidence-based treatments (EBTs) such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), standard dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), DBT-ACES, cognitive behavioral analysis system therapy of psychotherapy (CBASP), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). In treatment, Dr. Bemis utilizes CBT, ACT, and DBT skills, as these modalities have been scientifically proven to be effective for a myriad of concerns.

Aligned with the principles of the EBTs mentioned above, Dr. Bemis fosters a warm, non-judgmental, and culturally responsive environment where clients can feel safe to share their innermost vulnerabilities. She validates her clients' emotions while gently challenging them to discover alternative perspectives. Her therapeutic stance is egalitarian, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative client-therapist alliance. She values receiving constructive feedback as establishing a genuine and authentic therapeutic relationship cultivates trust and is an opportunity for learning and growth. Dr. Bemis will work with you as a team to ensure that you both are on the same page and that every effort made is a step in progress toward transformational healing.
