Dr. Bemis has extensive experience providing psychotherapy to diverse populations in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She worked as a staff psychologist in the public sector at the CA Department of State Hospitals-Metropolitan, where she conducted psychological assessments and offered individual and group therapy to adults in need of long-term inpatient care due to severe mental illness. Additionally, she performed competency evaluations for individuals under PC 1370 (Incompetent to Stand Trial) and led specialized treatment programs to help patients acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively participate in court.

Dr. Bemis also underwent intensive training during the rigorous APA-accredited postdoctoral fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she supervised the Adult Outpatient Psychiatry CBT/DBT clinic. As Assistant Clinical Director, she oversaw graduate trainees and facilitated research dissemination projects for undergraduate students. Her clinical training encompasses the implementation of evidence-based treatments (EBTs) such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), standard dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), DBT-ACES, cognitive behavioral analysis system of psychotherapy (CBASP), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Furthermore, Dr. Bemis has advanced training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as well as CBT for psychosis (CBTp).

Aligned with the principles of the EBTs mentioned above, Dr. Bemis maintains an egalitarian therapeutic stance, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative client-therapist alliance. She embodies a warm, non-judgmental, and culturally responsive approach, creating a safe space for clients to share their deepest vulnerabilities. She occasionally integrates humor to normalize her clients' experiences. Dr. Bemis validates their emotions and gently navigates the exploration of alternative thoughts. Moreover, she values constructive feedback from her clients, believing that establishing a genuine and authentic relationship fosters trust and provides opportunities for learning and growth. Dr. Bemis collaborates with you as a team to ensure that you are both aligned and that every effort made is a step toward transformative healing.
